History: [see
Who We Are]
CEC has served the Grand Junction community since 1982 to troubled
individuals and families in need of counseling services.
The Center for Enriched Communication initially began in the home of
Sister Faye Huelsmann and Sister Pat Lewter, Sisters of Saint Joseph of
Concordia, Kansas.
With the
help of grants and donations CEC paid down on and obtained a loan to obtain their present home,
at 2708 Patterson Road.
CEC continues to provide affordable counseling services to low income and
uninsured individuals of Mesa County.
Clients seek treatment for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress
disorder, marriage counseling, family dysfunction and behavioral problems.
What Makes us One of a Kind:
[see Who We Are]
We provide affordable counseling services. We are able to see families
and individuals from all income levels.
We charge on a sliding scale and do not turn anyone in need away.
We do not have any requirements, limits or income criteria on who can come
for services.
Our emphasis is on situational, life crisis problems.
We are open Monday thru Fridays AND on some Sundays, including evenings.
Our location is convenient not only by car but by public transportation.
Our emphasis is not on the chronically ill.

FYI:
We accept Medicaid, RMHP Medicare, and various other insurance plans.
In
2007, CEC provided over 3,200 hours of counseling hours to over 425 low-income individuals and
families. Twenty-nine youth were seen in our weekly structured Insights
program. Thirty families participated in our parenting classes, Parent Effective Communication Skills.
Ten adults attended our Anger Management classes. Ten children (ages 6 to
13) attended our Power-Aid classes, a therapeutic support group for children who
have witnessed violence. Eighty-two students were seen at Holy Family
School for therapeutic groups and counseling.
Funding sources: donations, grants, fundraising projects, and fees for
service.
Presently our staffing pattern is: 2.5 fulltime
equivalent administrative staff; 10 full- and part-time counselors, and 2 half-time MSC AmeriCorps Volunteers.
Volunteers are recruited to help with many day-to-day duties such as clerical,
maintenance, housekeeping duties, and with special events. Total volunteer
hours contributed during 2007 were over 2,900 hours.
