About Our Board Members

SHANNON ALLEN:

I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Human Nutrition and am a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association. I was the Dietary Director at the Grand Junction Regional Center for 21 years and am now working as a consultant Dietitian in Long Term Care. I have lived in Grand Junction since 1981 and I have three sons ages 25, 23 and 21. I believe in the programs and services that CEC offers and am excited about serving on their Board.

JEANNETTE BENSON:

I have been on the board of CEC for 8 years . My priest recommended serving in this way since I have been involved in Stephen Ministry which also is a way for helping hurting people. As with many people, I had a need for counseling earlier in my life and this is one way I can give back to help others.

NIKKI BLACKBURN:

Nikki Blackburn and her husband, Mike, are the owners of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Nikki was asked to consider joining the board of CEC and is thrilled to serve on a board that offers affordable counseling to all in need regardless of ability to pay.

HELEN SWEENEY:

Serving on the Board of the Counseling and Education Center is an opportunity to support an important, viable organization that plays an integral role in the Grand Valley community.   My background includes Human Resource Management and Advertising and Marketing. After moving to Grand Junction in 2002, I knew it was important to get involved in the community and was fortunate to work at the Business Incubator Center dealing with the Enterprise Zone - a Colorado State Tax Credit Program.  I also volunteer at the Grand Junction Visitors’ & Convention Bureau.

PAM GARDNER

CATHY FREDERICK

The Counseling and Education Center is a non-profit organization that I believe in. It is one which I support not only financially, but volunteer at as a board member and now as the board president. I have been associated with CEC for the last 20 years.

THOMAS KEEFE

I have been in the Advertising, Marketing and Graphics industry for almost 40 years. I have personally benefited from counseling and believe that CEC is a valuable asset to the Grand Junction community. I hope to lend some of my professional experience to CEC's efforts. My wife, Karen has enjoyed her tenure as a CEC counselor.

BETTY LUCKEMEYER

I have been a long-time volunteer in Grand Junction since coming here in 1986.  My activities have included an adult literacy program at Mesa County Library, the Colorado Welcome Center at Fruita, and various church projects at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  I enjoy writing and card playing also.

REV. SHARYL PETERSON

I have been the Senior Minister of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Grand Junction since July 2001, when my husband Bob and I moved here from Denver. I’ve been in parish ministry for 12 years; before that, I was a college professor and later, administrator for about 20 years. With a Ph.D. in Psychology, I’ve always believed in the importance of counseling, and with a heart for love, I believe that everyone should have access to counseling, regardless of their financial circumstances. I think CEC is a huge blessing to our community, and it’s wonderful to be able to support its work as a Board member!

NOTE:  Requests for Board policies and financial records are available upon reasonable request at the office of CEC.
