The Board Plans for the Future
About Our Board Members I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Human Nutrition and am
a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association. I was the Dietary
Director at the Grand Junction Regional Center for 21 years and am now working
as a consultant Dietitian in Long Term Care.
I have lived in Grand Junction since 1981 and I have three sons ages 25, 23 and
21. I believe in the programs and services that CEC offers and am excited about
serving on their Board. I have been on the board of CEC for 8 years . My priest recommended serving in
this way since I have been involved in Stephen Ministry which also is a way for
helping hurting people. As with many people, I had a need for counseling earlier
in my life and this is one way I can give back to help others. Nikki Blackburn and her husband, Mike, are the owners of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Nikki was asked to consider joining the board of CEC and is thrilled to serve on a board that offers affordable counseling to all in need regardless of ability to pay. Jon Burnham works as a Commercial Loan Officer for Wells Fargo Bank in Grand
Junction. A Colorado native, Jon and his wife Trisha moved to the area in
1995 from Durango. As a new member of the Board, he is pleased to be a part of this valuable organization and help ensure that important
counseling services are available to all members of our community. Colorado has been my home for the last fifteen years. However, I was born in
Western Colorado and lived here until I was 22 years old and married my husband,
Ray. We lived in Florida and California during our absence from Colorado. We
raised four children, and I worked as a medical assistant and office manager
once my children were in school. It is great to be back in Colorado. I was
impressed with CEC and the wonderful work they do. I have been a proud Board
member for over 10 years. I have been a Physical Therapist for 29 years, including working locally for the old Hilltop House and at the Grand Junction Regional Center, where I knew some of the CEC Board members and Penny Frankhouser. Recently I have changed my career to become a photographer. I look forward to supporting CEC's mission and programs.
The Counseling and I have been a long-time volunteer in Grand Junction since coming here in 1986. My activities have included an adult literacy program at Mesa County Library, the Colorado Welcome Center at Fruita, and various church projects at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. I enjoy writing and card playing also. I have been a Registered Nurse for forty years. Thirty of those were spent working in Emergency Departments, and I am now working part-time in long-term care. I grew up in the Grand Valley, and graduated from high school and college here. Then I went to San Diego for 20 years, but then I came back in the Grand Junction in 2000. I am really pleased to be back where my mom & sister also live. I am pleased now to be working with CEC and have been very impressed with the good work that the Center does in our community. I have been the Senior Minister of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Grand Junction since July 2001, when my husband Bob and I moved here from Denver. I’ve been in parish ministry for 12 years; before that, I was a college professor and later, administrator for about 20 years. With a Ph.D. in Psychology, I’ve always believed in the importance of counseling, and with a heart for love, I believe that everyone should have access to counseling, regardless of their financial circumstances. I think CEC is a huge blessing to our community, and it’s wonderful to be able to support its work as a Board member!
