Christian Mueller – Board President

Christian is the former director of the CEC and starting his second membership with the Board of Directors. Christian worked for 30 years for the State of Colorado, the Department of Human Services. Chris has a life-long interest in access to services and support for individuals in need. as well as deeply valued the opportunity of leading CEC for five years. His education includes undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Therapeutic Recreation with a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling. Christian also enjoys ceramics, the outdoors, and keeping physically active.


Catharine Mudd Vice President

Catherine is a retired MCVSD 51 counselor who joined the CEC Board in February of 2021. During her career, she often saw the overwhelming need for comprehensive and affordable mental health intervention for the youth and families in our community. Catharine joined the CEC Board to be of service to the organization, and she hopes to offer insights based on her experiences working in the school district. Aside from her professional goals and interests, Catharine enjoys reading, skiing, camping, hiking, and gardening.


Bryan Newman – Co-Secretary/Treasurer

Bryan is the Chaplain and Manager of Spiritual and Palliative Care for St. Mary’s Medical Center.  As a leader in the Spiritual Care department, he directed day-to-day operations, taking on more responsibility before becoming a manager. In 2004 he became a Board Certified Chaplain. For Bryan and the other St. Mary’s chaplains, their calling means being involved with physicians and other health care providers as they make their daily hospital rounds. The chaplains also respond to ER traumas, code blues, deaths, and other crises.


Jesse Scott – Co-Secretary/Treasurer

Jesse brings experience and passion as a Student Mentor at Colorado Mesa University. Jesse has a background in wilderness therapy, community counseling, human services, and youth correction. Jesse is part of the CEC Board in an effort to foster community support and increase access to mental health care. Jesse also dedicates his time to youth advocacy and coaching youth skiing for the Powderhorn Racing Club. 


David Buchanan – Board Member

David is a veteran journalist, world traveler, and avid outdoorsman who has written about the outdoors – fishing, biking, hunting, rock climbing, skiing, and more for Grand Junction’s Daily Sentinel for many years. He has served on the CEC Board of Directors for three years. ​


Carol Calacino Board Member

Carol is the Director of Medical Staff Services at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center and joined the CEC Board in February 2021. Carol’s genuine concern and love for the Grand Junction community led her to become a board member for CEC. Carol also serves on the Grand Junction Catholic Outreach Empty Bowls committee. Carol and her husband raised two sons and now own a small vineyard and bed-and-breakfast in Palisade.


Tonya McFarland Board Member

Tonya is a realtor/property manager and owner of Fusion Property Management and Real Estate, LLC.  Prior to this career, Tonya spent 13 years working at Hilltop Community Resources because she believes in the value of helping others, human services, and mental health.  Joining CEC as a Board Member is one way of continuing her interest in human services and mental health. She is interested in ensuring access to mental health and the understanding of mental health by serving as a volunteer, which is one way to help strengthen both in our community.


Maggie Moorland – Board Member

Maggie is a Program Coordinator for the Peer Health Assistance Program at Peer Assistance Services (PAS). She is a fourth-generation Western Slope native, a graduate of Colorado Mesa University, and has worked in the nonprofit sector for 16 years. Prior to this role, Maggie worked supporting at-risk youth and seniors with Mesa County Partners and St. Mary’s Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs.


Sheila Reiner – Board Member

Sheila is a born and raised Western Colorado native and has been married for 29 years, Sheila and her husband have four children and seven grandchildren. Sheila began her career in county government in 2001 and in 2010 she was elected as our Clerk & Recorder. After serving her two allowable terms she was elected Treasurer and Public Trustee. Sheila has served as president of the Colorado County Clerks Association and is currently the Vice President of the Colorado Treasurer and Public Trustee Association. 


Holly Webster – Board Member

​Holly works at the Grand Junction Housing Authority providing supportive services to families and individuals in affordable housing and understands the need for accessible mental health services. She loves spending time outdoors hiking, running, and camping. Holly has been an active volunteer in the community for non-profits and service clubs for the last twelve years.


Danette MacMillan Board Member

Danette moved to Grand Junction in 2004 from California. and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from CMU as well as a Master of Nursing Leadership Degree at Regis University. She has been for 30 years and has 2 adult children along with 2 dogs. Danette has worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy scouts for over 10 years, she is part of the parish council for Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the advisory council for Holy Family Catholic School. She is also currently on the board for the northwest region of the Colorado Organization of Nurse Leaders. As a nurse, Danette has experienced the effects of depression, trauma, anxiety, etc on personal health and well-being in the community and individuals. Her interests aside from those in her professional life include enjoying spending time with my family and friends, hiking, golfing, singing, and learning to play the piano.


Dr. Maridel Andres – Board Member

Dr. Maridel T. Andres, Ph.D., PC is a licensed doctor in clinical psychology. Dr. Andres has professional experience as a full academic scholar in clinical psychology and spirituality from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, Dutch campus, and a professor in Belgium, Germany teaching psychology and philosophy. Dr. Andres has experience teaching, counseling, and consulting with the U.S military overseas in Europe as well as is a spiritual retreat leader, CEO and life coach, and public speaker. During her professional career, she has worked in various settings and has worked with a range of individuals, varying in age. She is also a wildlife advocate, a philanthropist, and a 7-continent marathoner.
