A planned gift to CEC is one of the most powerful ways to ensure that quality, affordable mental health care remains available in the Grand Valley for generations to come.
And there are more ways to give than most people realize.
Everyone who makes a planned gift to CEC joins the Dandelion Wish community, our legacy giving circle.
Planned giving simply means arranging a gift today that takes effect in the future. It costs nothing now and can make an extraordinary difference down the road. Planned gifts are often larger than regular donations because they come from accumulated assets over a lifetime, not just annual income. They are one of the most consequential things a donor can do for an organization they love.
At CEC, everyone who makes a planned gift becomes a Dandelion Wish Donor, a member of our legacy giving community. We are grateful for every person who chooses to invest in this work beyond their lifetime.
Also called a charitable bequest, this is the most common form of planned giving. You designate CEC as a beneficiary of a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or whatever remains after other provisions are made. It costs nothing during your lifetime, can be updated at any time, and may reduce the tax liability of your estate.
Donating appreciated stock is often more tax-efficient than giving cash. When you give stock you have held for more than a year, you avoid capital gains taxes and can deduct the full fair market value of the shares at the time of the gift. More of your gift reaches CEC, and less goes to taxes.
You can name CEC as a full or partial beneficiary of an IRA, 401(k), or other retirement account. Because CEC is a tax-exempt nonprofit, we receive the full value of the gift without the tax burden that would apply to an individual heir. It is one of the most efficient planned gifts available and requires no changes to your will.
You can name CEC as a beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy, or transfer ownership of a policy to CEC. This allows you to make a meaningful future gift, often at relatively low cost during your lifetime.
Planned giving looks different for everyone. We are happy to have a no-pressure conversation about what might work for you and answer any questions you have along the way.
